“When it’s cold outside, I’ve got the month of May” —The Temptations, My Girl
The Temptations knew what they were talking about when they spoke of the month May being the ultimate contrast to the cold and bleakness of winter, of a metaphor for love of the most beautiful woman, for the completion of the self in that love.
I haven’t updated my site with images of my Happy Hollow in a long time. I hope these few photos of this past May help make up for that failure to provide my site’s visitors with the vicarious experience of why I named my little slice of paradise that.
Another spring day in May. What else can I say?
As you may know I moved my web site to a new server and decided I should split the Nova Scotia and Happy Hollow content into two separate sites. I did the set up operations but since then have been busy with Spring work on Happy Hollow and haven’t gotten around to adding content to either of the new sites, so the old combined site is still here at StanFrantz.com
I have been taking pictures again during my morning walks and since my phone backs up to Google photos, I’ll post some of the daily shoots here for your perusal as the old gallery no longer exists and was too much work and bandwidth to upload to anyhow.
Here is my walk around the property on May 1. Come along with me and George and experience the first day of May!
One of these days I suppose these early morning walks will lose their sense of wonder and amazement, of discovery and excitement, even when treading the same familiar paths.
Until that time you’ll just have to endure my endless attempts at creating a vicarious online experience of it all to share with the world in hopes that someday someone will come join us. Continue reading
Sunday, June 5, 2016 was gray and drizzly. We still took our usual walk down Beersville Road and back around the property and the meadow.
Something about the light on overcast days enchants me as much or perhaps more than on those glorious shining bright days where the colors pop so vividly. I think it’s because it requires me to look even more closely at what I’m seeing and take my time to be fully in the moment and savor the subtlety of the many shades of green and the other colors that are overwhelmed by the preponderance of green—did I mention the green?—the yellows, and blues, and pinks, and purples, and more. The more you look, the more you see.
And as usual, this video is also a story of me trying to take photos while wrangling the expert photo bomber aka George, and tapping into his excited and energetic experience of the greatest of all pursuits: Walkies!
Another phone app generated attempt to share this morning’s ambulatory excursion around the little corner of Pennsylvania we call Happy Hollow.
Once again attempting to create the vicarious experience of our morning walk around the neighborhood and property here in Happy Hollow…without the soaking wet shoes. (I really need to find another pair of those rubber garden clogs again…and keep them out of George’s reach this time.) Continue reading
Come Enjoy the Country Life!
Flower & Vegetable Gardens, Chickens, Ducks, Creek, Pond, Wildflowers, Woods, Wildlife!
Happy Hollow is my name for my small farmette in the country near Bath, PA, about 10 miles from Bethlehem & Allentown. I’ve been here and gardening since 2000, but now need someone to manage the garden & property and harvest and share the food as I spend summer through fall at my new home in Nova Scotia.
