After a summer in Happy Hollow, enduring the heat and humidity, so I could enjoy my meadow and my garden for a change, I finally loaded George and myself in the truck after Labor Day and made the long, long, long drive up to my getaway on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. He Ain’t Heavy

My brother David Frantz will be 64 on Friday, February 16, 2018. I made this as a birthday gift for him from my pics of his first and last surf sessions in Nova Scotia below my house there in November 2016. The photos are pretty terrible as it was raining in the first session and sleeting in the last, wind blowing about 35mph offshore. In the surfing world going out on a day like that is called in our tribal lingo ‘core,’ short for ‘hardcore.’ It is one of the highest honors to achieve being known as ‘core.’ i.e. That dude is so core! Astaak at Abbecombec

Today’s vocabulary words:

Awakening – coming into existence or awareness.
Requiescence – a state of rest or repose; peace, quiet.

Astaak is the native name for the point on which I built my home. It means “the sun comes out.” It overlooks Abbecombec, which is the native word for a wide curving bay and also the name of the village below my home along whose beaches I stroll almost daily. Continue reading

Atmosphere

I’ve never studied yoga or meditation, but I believe I read somewhere that in order to achieve inner peace one must create the right atmosphere. I think perhaps I’ve managed to do that by finding my special Aerie on Astaak and spending a lot of time walking along the beaches and marshes below. Continue reading
