The Lily Pond

The Lily Pond

In the middle of the marshes and wetlands, the tidal estuary that is the centerpiece of Abbecombec, there are a couple old buildings and remnants that show the hand of man once attempted to control nature’s productions. A salmon hatchery had owned the land in the distant past and had built the early roads as well as ponds and canals to facilitate the spawned salmon’s escape and return to the sea.

Decades later, nature has turned one such pond into a wonder that always draws me to stop and appreciate its beauty and raises memories of the impressionist painter Manet and his fascination with the subject of lilies that he painted over and over.

Perhaps channeling that impulse, that obsession, that enchantment, I have taken 1000s of pictures here over the years, in every kind of weather and light and time of day.

I’ve compiled some of my favorites into 3 slideshow videos in an attempt to share my wonder and love of this special magical place. This collection from 2018 and 2019 is the 3rd and last until I return with more next year.
